  • Sanctions (noun) – प्रतिबंध
    action taken, or an order given to force a country to obey international laws by limiting or stopping trade with that country, by not allowing economic aid for that country, etc (Courtesy: VOA Learning English).

    Meaning – A threatened penalty for disobeying a law or rule.
    Synonyms – Penalty, Punishment, Deterrent.

    Meaning – An act or instance of waiving a right or claim.
    Synonyms – renunciation, abandonment, rejection, deferral.
    Sentence – Their acquiescence could amount to a waiver.
  • Tide over (phrasal verb) 
    Meaning – sustain, bridge the gap, keep going, see through.
  • Facilitate (verb) – सुविधा प्रदान करना 
    Meaning – Make (an action or process) easy or easier.
    Synonyms – Make easier, assist, enable, expedite, speed up, make smooth.
    Sentence – Schools were located in the same campus to facilitate the sharing of resources.
  • Rhetoric (noun) – वक्रपटुता, भाषण कला
    Meaning – The art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the exploitation of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.
    Synonyms – bombast, loftiness, hyperbole, extravagant language.

    Sentence – He is using a common figure of rhetoric, hyperbole.
  • Incur (verb) – अपने ऊपर लेना, झेलना
    Meaning – Become subject to (something unwelcome or unpleasant) as a result of one’s own behaviour or actions.

    Meaning –
    Find a way around (an obstacle)
    Synonyms – avoid, bypass/sidestep, dodge.

    Sentence – it was always possible to circumvent the regulations.
  • Stick to (phrasal verb)
    Meaning – Adhere to, abide by, keep, hold to.
  • Unilateral (adjective)एकतरफा
    Meaning – (of an action or decision) performed by or affecting only one person, group, or country involved in a situation, without the agreement of another or the others.
    Sentence – There was no unilateral agreement saying that the G8 countries need to change their trade policies.
  • Leverage (noun) – उत्तोलन, शक्ति

  • Figurative (adjective) – आलंकारिक, औपचारिक

  • Outpace (verb) – आगे बढ़ना, पीछे छोड़ना
    Meaning –
    Go, rise, or improve faster than.
    Synonyms – surpass, outshine, go faster than.

    Sentence – Current and capital accounts are in surplus and Asia’s growth is outpacing the rest of the world, it said.
  • Foreseeable (adjective) – निकट
    Meaning – Able to be foreseen or predicted.
    Synonyms – expected, predictable, inevitable.

    Sentence – It will not last forever but it may exist for the foreseeable future.
