(b) 137 + \frac{5}{100}

(c) \frac{7}{10} + \frac{6}{100} + \frac{4}{1000}

(d) 23 + \frac{2}{10} + \frac{6}{1000}

(e) 700 + 20 + 5 + \frac{9}{100}

Solutions :

(a) 20 + 9 + \frac{4}{10} +\frac{1}{100}

= 29 + 0.4 + 0.01
= 29.41

(b) 137 + \frac{5}{100}

= 137 + 0.05
= 137.05

(c) \frac{7}{10} + \frac{6}{100} + \frac{4}{1000}

= 0.7 + 0.06 + 0.004
=0.764

(d) 23 + \frac{2}{10} + \frac{6}{1000}

= 23 + 0.2 + 0.006
= 23.206

(e) 700 + 20 + 5 + \frac{9}{100}

= 725 + 0.09
= 725.09

6. Between which two numbers in tenths place on the number line does each of the given number lie?
(a) 0.60
(b) 0.45
(c) 0.19
(d) 0.66
(e) 0.92
(f) 0.57

Solutions:

(a) 0.60 lies between 0 and 0.1 in tenths place.
(b) 0.45 lies between 0.4 and 0.5 in tenths place.
(c) 0.19 lies between 0.1 and 0.2 in tenths place.
(d) 0.66 lies between 0.6 and 0.7 in tenths place.
(e) 0.92 lies between 0.9 and 1.0 in tenths place.
(f) 0.57 lies between 0.5 and 0.6 in tenths place.

7. Write as fractions in lowest terms.
(a) 0.60
(b) 0.05
(c) 0.75
(d) 0.18
(e) 0.25
(f) 0.125
(g) 0.066

Solutions:

(a) 0.60 = \frac{60}{100} = \frac{60\div20}{100\div20}

∵  H.C.F.(60, 100) = 20

= \frac{3}{5}

(b) 0.05 = \frac{5}{100} = \frac{5\div5}{100\div5}

∵  H.C.F.(5, 100) = 5

= \frac{1}{2}

(c) 0.75 = \frac{75}{100} = \frac{75\div25}{100\div25}

∵  H.C.F.(75, 100) = 25

= \frac{3}{4}

(d) 0.18 = \frac{18}{100} = \frac{18\div2}{100\div2}

∵  H.C.F.(18, 100) = 2

= \frac{9}{50}

(e) 0.25 = \frac{25}{100} = \frac{25\div25}{100\div25}

∵  H.C.F.(25, 100) = 25

= \frac{1}{4}

(f) 0.125 = \frac{125}{1000}= \frac{125\div125}{1000\div125}

∵  H.C.F.(125, 1000) = 125

= \frac{1}{8}

(g) 0.066 = \frac{66}{1000} = \frac{66\div2}{1000\div2}

∵  H.C.F.(66, 1000) = 2

= \frac{33}{500}
