1. Why did the farmer bring a baby mongoose into the house?
Answer – The farmer and his wife only had one son and wanted a companion for him when he grew up. They decided to bring a pet for this and thus the farmer brought a baby mongoose into the house.
2. Why didn’t the farmer’s wife want to leave the baby alone with the mongoose?
Answer – The farmer’s wife did not want to leave the baby alone with the mongoose because she was scared that the mongoose might harm her child.
3. What was the farmer’s comment on his wife’s fears?
Answer – The farmer assured his wife that the mongoose was a friendly animal and it wouldn’t hurt their baby. The farmer also said that the mongoose was as sweet as their baby and they were best friends.
4. Why did the farmer’s wife strike the mongoose with her basket?
Answer – When the farmer’s wife noticed blood on the face and paws of the mongoose. She thought that the mongoose has killed her baby so out of rage she hit the mongoose with her basket. The animal died on the spot.
5. Did she repent her hasty action? How does she show her repentance?
Answer: Yes, She repented her hasty action once she realized that the mongoose has actually saved her baby. She sobbed touching the dead mongoose and exclaimed that she had killed the animal which has saved her baby.
