Working with the text

Answer the following questions:

1. Why was the king advised to go to magicians? 

Answer – The king was told that in order to decide the right time for doing something, it was necessary to look into the future. Since only magicians could do so, he was advised to go to magicians.

2. In answer to the second question, whose advice did the people say would be important to the king?

Answer – In answer to the second question, some people said that the advice of councilors was important, some said the advice of the priest was important, some others said doctors and soldiers are important to the king.

3. What suggestions were made in answer to the third question? 

Answer – In answer to the third question some said science, some said fighting while others said religious worship. 

4. Did the wise men win the reward? If not, why not?

Answer – No, the wise men did not win the reward as the king was not satisfied with anybody’s answers.

5. How did the king and the hermit help the wounded man? 

Answer – The King with the help of hermit removed the wounded man’s clothes, washed his wound and covered it with his handkerchief. He redressed it till the blood stopped flowing.

(i) Who was the bearded man?
(ii) Why did he ask for the king’s forgiveness?

Answer –
(i)
The bearded man was the King’s enemy who swore revenge on him.

(ii) He asked for the king’s forgiveness because he came to kill the king and the king saved his life.

7. The king forgave the bearded man. What did he do to show his forgiveness?

Answer – Yes, the king forgave the bearded man and would also send his servants and doctor to look after him. Also, he promised to give back his property.

8. What were the hermit’s answers to the three questions? Write each answer separately. Which answer do you like most, and why?

Answer – The hermit’s answers to the three questions were:
1. According to hermit the most important time ‘is present’ because it is the time when we have power of action.
2. The most important person is one with whom we are at a particular time.
3. The most important business is to do good with that person. I liked the third answer most because we are sent in this world for that purpose alone.
