1. Draw a line segment of length 7.3 cm using a ruler.

Solutions:

Using a ruler, we can draw a line segment of length 7.3 cm as follows

Step 1: Mark a point A on the sheet
Step 2: Place the O mark of the ruler against the point P.
Step 3: Mark a point B at a distance of 7.3 cm from A.
Step 4: Join A and B.
Thus  is the line segment of length 7.3 cm.

2. Construct a line segment of length 5.6 cm using ruler and compass.

Solutions:

By using a ruler and compasses, we may draw a line segment of length 5.6 cm as follows

Step 1: Draw a line l and mark a point A on this line l.

Step 2: Place the needle of the compass on the zero mark of the ruler and open it upto 5.6 mark.
Step 3: Place the needle at any point A at the line and draw an arc to cut l at B.
Thus,  is the required line segment of length 5.6 cm.

3. Construct of length 7.8 cm. From this, cut off of length 4.7 cm. Measure .

Solutions:

Given that = 7.8 cm and = 4.7 cm.

Step 1: Place zero mark of the ruler at A.

Step 2: Mark a point B at a distance of 7.8 cm from A.
Step 3: Mark another point C at a distance of 4.7 cm from A such that = 4.7 cm.
Step 4: On measuring the length of BC, we find that  = 3.1 cm.

4. Given of length 3.9 cm. Construct such that the length of is twice that of . Verify by measurement.

(Hint : Construct such that the length of = length of then cut off such that also has the length of .)

Solutions:

Step 1: Draw a line l of suitable length.
Step 2: Draw  = 3.9 cm

Step 2: From the line, construct =  = 3.9 cm.

Step 4: Again construct =  =3.9 cm

5. Given of length 7.3 cm and of length 3.4 cm, construct a line segment  such that the length of XY is equal to the difference between the length of and  . Verify the measurement.

Solutions:

Step 1: Construct = 7.3 cm and  = 3.4 cm.
Step 2: Take a point P on the given line l.
Step 3: Construct such that  = =  = 7.3 cm.
Step 4: Construct = = 3.4 cm such that PQ =  .
