The pilgrimage of Chardham has great importance in the life of people who believe in Hinduism. Every Hindu wants to attain salvation in his sins, sufferings and life by visiting these Chardhams in his life.

Yamunotri Dham
- Yamunotri Dham is located in Uttarkashi district. First of all, the journey of Char Dham is started from Yamunotri.
- There is a hot pool of water near Yamunotri Dham; Whose name is Surya Kund, in that hot pool of water, rice and potatoes are left tied in bundles, they are cooked and ready themselves, which is accepted as prasad.
- The doors of Yamunotri temple are closed on the day of Bhaiya Dooj, winter worship of Yamunotri is done in Kharsali village.
- The doors of Yamunotri Dham are opened on the day of Akshaya Tritiya in summers.
- The first Yamunotri temple was built by Sudarshan Shah, the ruler of Tehri princely state; From time to time it is being re-upgraded. Yamunotri Dham was rebuilt in the 19th century as well.
- Yamuna river flows near Yamunotri Dham, Yamuna river originates from the glacier named Yamunotri in the Bandar Poonch mountain range.
- Tons River is the largest tributary of Yamuna River in Uttarakhand.
- Yamuna River joins Ganga River in Prayagraj (Allahabad), it is also the largest tributary and right tributary of Ganga.
Gangotri Dham
- Gangotri Dham is located in Uttarkashi district, it is dedicated to the mother.
- The credit for founding the modern Gangotri temple goes to Amar Singh Thapa, the Gorkha general, because the temple was damaged in the earthquake of 1803. Amar Singh Thapa built the temple.
- The winter period worship of Gangotri is done in Mukhwa village, Mukhwa village is called the mother’s house of Ganga.
- Mukhwa is called Mukhimath Mukhwas, the main monastery.
- The doors of Gangotri Dham open on the day of Akshaya Tritiya in summer, then the Dola of Mother Ganga is brought from Mukhwa to Gangotri Dham, the winter abode.
- The doors of Gangotri Dham are closed for winter on the holy festival of Annakoot or Govardhan Puja.
- Bhagirathi River flows near Gangotri Dham, which originates from a place called Gomukh in Gangotri Glacier, Gangotri Glacier is the largest glacier in the state, Bhilangana River is the largest tributary of Bhagirathi.
- The distance from Gangotri Dham to Gomukh is about 16 or 17 km on foot inaccessible track.
Kedarnath Dham
- Kedarnath Dham is located in Rudraprayag district, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
- This is the only Jyotirlinga located in Uttarakhand which is considered to be the 12th Jyotirlinga.
- During winter the doors of Kedarnath Dham are closed, in winters Baba Kedar is worshiped at Omkareshwar temple of Ukhimath.
- According to the ancient tradition, every year on the day of Mahashivratri, the opening day of Kedarnath Dham is taken out in Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath, during the summer, the doors of Kedarnath Dham are opened in April-May.
- Mandakini river flows near Kedarnath Dham.
- The confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini is in Rudraprayag district itself.
- In June 16 to 17, 2013, there was a horrific disaster near Kedarnath Dham, due to the breakdown of the Chorabari Tal near Kedarnath, the Mandakani river originates from here.
- Operation Rahat and Operation Suryahope were launched to rescue the disaster victims.
- The former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has written a book about the disaster of Kedarnath Dham, which is named “True Stories of Kedarnath Disasters”.
Badrinath Dham
- Badrinath Dham is located in Chamoli district which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
- Shankaracharya took out the idol of Vishnu from Narad Kund and installed it in Badrinath Dham.
- Every year on Vijayadashami, the date of closing the doors of Badrinath Dham for winter is announced.
- In winter, the doors of Badrinath Dham are closed by law, in winter, symbolically, Lord Badrinarayan is worshiped in the Narasimha temple of Joshimath.
- Alaknanda river flows near Badrinath Dham; Alaknanda river originates from a place called Alkapuri near Shatopanth glacier.
- The combined stream of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi is called Ganga, from Devprayag Tehri where these two rivers meet, this confluence is also called the confluence of Saas Bahu, Bhagirathi river is called Saas and Alaknanda river is called Bahu.
- Rawal Namboodiri Brahmins of Kerala offer prayers at Badrinath Dham,
- They are considered to be descendants of Shankaracharya, they are basically residents of Kerala Malwa.
