The role of women was important in the Uttarakhand state movement. This movement is the main movement of Uttarakhand, due to which Uttarakhand became a state separated from Uttar Pradesh. The women of Uttarakhand also played an important role in the forest movement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The demand to give Uttarakhand a separate statehood had arisen even before the independence of India. In British rule too, the demand for a separate state was raised after a session at several places. But even after independence, it took many years for Uttarakhand to get the status of a separate state. And after many years of struggle and many sacrifices, Uttarakhand got the status of a separate state on <strong>9 November 2000.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>The movement to Make Uttarakhand a Separate State<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The demand for <strong>making Uttarakhand<\/strong> a state was <strong>first raised<\/strong> at a special session of the <strong>Indian National Congress<\/strong> held in <strong>Srinagar on 5-6 May 1938<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In 1938, for the separate state, <strong>Sridev Suman<\/strong> formed an organization of <strong>&#8216;Gadeshdesh Seva Sangh&#8217;<\/strong> in <strong>Delhi, <\/strong>and later its name was changed to <strong>&#8216;Himalaya Seva Sangh<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>1950<\/strong>, the <strong>Hill Development Jan Samiti<\/strong> was formed to combine <strong>Himachal and Uttarakhand<\/strong> into a larger Himalayan state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>1957<\/strong>, <strong>Tehri Naresh Manwendrashah<\/strong> started<strong> a separate state movement from his level<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The <strong>Hill State Council<\/strong> was formed at a conference held in <strong>Ramnagar on 24-25 June 1967<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Kumao National Front<\/strong> was <strong>formed by PC Joshi<\/strong>, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India on <strong>3 October 1970<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>1976 Uttarakhand Youth Council<\/strong> was <strong>formed<\/strong> and in <strong>1978 members also tried to encircle Parliament<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>1979, Uttaranchal State Council<\/strong> was established under the leadership of <strong>Janata Party<\/strong> Member of Parliament <strong>Trapan Singh Negi<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>In 1984<\/strong>, <strong>All India Student Federation<\/strong> took 900 K.M. in Garhwal to demand the state. Spreading awareness in the people through the Bicycle Tour.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>23 April 1987<\/strong>, <strong>Tivendra Panwar<\/strong> threw a <strong>letter bomb in Parliament<\/strong> demanding the state.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>In 1987<\/strong>, in the party conference of Almora headed by <strong>L.K. Advani<\/strong>, he accepted the demand for separate statehood for the mountainous region of Uttar Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>1988<\/strong>, the <strong>Uttaranchal Utthan Parishad<\/strong> was formed under the chairmanship of <strong>Shoban Singh Jeena<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>February 1989<\/strong>, all organizations formed the <strong>Uttaranchal Joint Conflict Committee<\/strong> to run a joint movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>1990<\/strong>, <strong>Jaswant Singh Bisht<\/strong> as the <strong>MLA of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal<\/strong> made the <strong>first proposal for a separate state in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>20 August 1991<\/strong>, the <strong>BJP government of the state sent a proposal for a separate Uttaranchal to the central government<\/strong>, but the central government did not take any decision.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In <strong>July 1992<\/strong>, the <strong>Uttarakhand Kranti Dal<\/strong> issued a document regarding the separate state and declared <strong>Garsain as the proposed capital<\/strong>, which was considered as the <strong>first blue-print<\/strong> of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The <strong>Kaushik Committee<\/strong> submitted its report in <strong>May 1994<\/strong>, in which it was recommended to make <strong>Uttarakhand a separate state and its capital in Garsain<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Mulayam Singh Yadav<\/strong> <strong>Government<\/strong> accepted the recommendation of <strong>Kaushik Committee on 21 July 1994 <\/strong>and the proposal to form a separate state by <strong>merging 8 hilly districts was passed by unanimously in the Legislative Assembly and sent to the Central Government<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Khatima Bullet Case &#8211;<\/strong> On <strong>September 1, 1994<\/strong>, <strong>25 people died<\/strong> after police opened fire at a rally of students and ex-soldiers in Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar, On the second day of this incident, on <strong>September 2, 1994,<\/strong> in a rally organized to express protest in <strong>Mansuri<\/strong>, people attended the PAC and attacked the police. <strong>Deputy Superintendent of Police Umakant Tripathi<\/strong> died in the incident. This incident is known as <strong>Mussoorie Firing.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">In the last week of <strong>September 1994<\/strong>, the protesters going to the Delhi rally misbehaved with women by some policemen at <strong>Rampur Tirahe Muzaffarnagar and 8 people died<\/strong> in the firing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>January 25, 1995,<\/strong> the <strong>Uttaranchal Sangharsh Samiti<\/strong> launched the <strong>&#8216;Save the Constitution Yatra&#8217;<\/strong> from the <strong>Supreme Court to the Rashtrapati Bhavan<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>November 10, 1995<\/strong>, <strong>Yashodhar Bejwal <\/strong>and <strong>Rajesh Rawat<\/strong> were killed by lathi-charge by the police on the protesters who were on a fast-unto-death in Srinagar island.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>15 August 1996<\/strong>, the then <strong>Prime Minister H.D. Deva Gowda<\/strong> announced the <strong>creation of the state of Uttaranchal<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>27 July 2000<\/strong>, the <strong>Uttar Pradesh Reorganization Bill 2000<\/strong> was <strong>introduced in the Lok Sabha<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The bill was <strong>passed in the Lok Sabha on 1 August 2000<\/strong> and in the <strong>Rajya Sabha on 10 August 2020<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On <strong>August 28, 2000<\/strong>, <strong>President K. R. Narayan<\/strong> approved the <strong>Uttar Pradesh Reorganization Bill<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Uttaranchal was formed on 9 November 2000<\/strong> as the <strong>27th state<\/strong> of the country and its <strong>temporary capital was made Dehradun<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">On the same day, <strong>Nityanand Swamy took over as the first Chief Minister as the first interim Chief Minister<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">From <strong>1 January 2007<\/strong>, Uttaranchal was renamed as <strong>Uttarakhand<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table
