\n(a) They are not provided adequate education. Thus, the literacy rate among women is just 54%.<\/span>
\n(b) Most of the labour done by them is unpaid. Where they are paid for their work, they receive\u00a0lesser wages than men.<\/span>
\n(c) Due to the preference for the boy child, female foeticide is practiced in many parts of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. State different forms of communal politics with one example each.
\n<\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>Different forms of communal politics:<\/span>
\n(a) The expression of communal superiority in everyday beliefs
\n<\/strong>Militant religious groups are a good example of this.<\/span>
\n(b) The desire to form a majoritarian dominance or a separate state
\n<\/strong>Separatist leaders and political parties in Jammu and Kashmir and Central India are an example of this. <\/span>
\n(c) The use of religious symbols and leaders in politics to appeal to the voters
\n<\/strong>This technique is applied by many politicians to influence voters from the two largest religious communities in the country. <\/span>
\n(d)<\/strong>\u00a0In addition to all this, communal politics can take the form of\u00a0communal violence and riots<\/strong>, like the riots in Gujarat in 2002.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. State how caste inequalities are still continuing in India.
\n<\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>Caste inequalities have not completely disappeared from India. Even today, most people marry within their own caste or tribe. Despite\u00a0constitutional prohibition,\u00a0untouchability has not ended completely.\u00a0Education is not easily available to the so called ‘low castes’. Economic status is closely linked to the caste system. In modern India, like in pre-independence India, the poor are mostly the ‘low castes’ while the rich are the\u00a0‘high castes’, thereby showing that caste inequalities are still continuing in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. State two reasons to say that caste alone cannot determine election results in India.
\n<\/strong>Answer –\u00a0 <\/strong>Caste alone cannot determine election results in India because:<\/span>
\nNo parliamentary constituency has a clear majority of one single caste.<\/span>
\nNo party wins all the votes of a particular caste.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. What is the status of women\u2019s representation in India\u2019s legislative bodies?
\n<\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>In India, the women’s participation in the political area is very low. The women’s strength in the Lok Sabha is not even 10%. Their share in state assemblies is as low as 5%. The share of women legislators in India is behind hind those of several developing countries of Latin America and Africa, In the panchayats and municipalities, it is legally binding to fill one-third of the seats by women candidates. This has resulted in 10 lakh elected women representatives in the local government bodies.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Mention any two constitutional provisions that make India a secular state.
