I\u2019ll warrant it true:<br \/>\nSome crickets have four legs, and some have two.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 &#8211; adapted from <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle2\">Aesop\u2019s Fables<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Working with the Poem<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The cricket says, \u201cOh! what will become of me?\u201d When does he say it, and why?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The winter has set in. He has nothing to eat. He can\u2019t find even a crumb on snowcovered ground. He is worried and starved. At that time he says so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(i) Find in the poem the lines that mean the same as \u201cNeither a borrower nor a lender be\u201d (Shakespeare).<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The line from the poem that means the same as \u201cNeither a borrower nor a lender be\u201d was \u201cBut we ants never borrow; we ants never lend.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(ii) What is your opinion of the ant\u2019s principles?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Answer &#8211; <\/strong>The ants\u2019 principles are appropriate. As a principle it deserves applaud. But we should not so hard as let the other die of starvation. However, one should make one realise one\u2019s mistake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The ant tells the cricket to \u201cdance the winter away\u201d. Do you think the word \u2018dance\u2019 is appropriate here? If so, why?<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The word &#8216;dance&#8217; here means &#8216;merry making and wasting time.&#8217; It is appropriate here. The irresponsible cricket does not deserve any sympathy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">(i) Which lines in the poem express the poet\u2019s comment? Read them aloud.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The lines in the poem that express the poet\u2019s comment are, \u201cFolks call this a fable.
