Write in your own words what you understand by the term the \u2018rule of law\u2019. In your response, include a fictitious or real example of a violation of the rule of law.<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The rule of the law means that all laws apply equally to all citizens of the country, and nobody is above the law. Every citizen is equal before the law; irrespective of religion, caste, gender, economic status or political power. State two reasons why historians refute the claim that the British introduced the rule of law in India.<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Answer &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Historians refute the claim that the British introduced the rule of law in India. Two prominent reasons for this are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The British laws were arbitrary in nature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Indian nationalists played a prominent role in development of the legal sphere in British India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>3. Re-read the storyboard on how a new law on domestic violence got passed. Describe in your own words the different ways in which women\u2019s groups worked to make this happen.<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 was passed with the aim of protecting women against any kind of violence, be it physical or verbal. Various women\u2019s groups worked to make this happen by reporting multiple cases of domestic violence. A group of lawyers, law students and activists worked together to draft the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection Bill). Other than this, various women\u2019s organisations, including the National Commission for Women, made submissions to the Parliamentary Standing Committee. All these actions taken by women together made the Government pass the bill against domestic violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>4. Write in your own words what you understand by the following sentence on pages 44-45: They also began fighting for greater equality and wanted to change the idea of law from a set of rules that they were forced to obey to the law, including ideas of justice.<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Answer &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Many laws during the British rule were arbitrary in nature. They were made with a view to keep the Indians under British control rather than ensuring justice for the people of India. The Indian nationalists started to protest and criticize the arbitrary use of authority by the British. The Indian nationalists did not want to be forced to obey some draconian laws.
