\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The atmosphere of Mr Purcell\u2019s shop was cheerful\u00a0because of the presence of so many chirping and squeaking birds and animals. However, all these birds and animals were in cages, and no one can be happy when inside a cage. Hence, the atmosphere was in a way depressing as well.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Describe the stranger who came to the pet shop. What did he want?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The stranger who came to the pet shop was wearing shiny shoes, a cheap, ill-fitting, but new suit. He had a shuttling glance and close-cropped hair. He was gazing around the shop. He wanted something in a cage.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\n(i) The man insisted on buying the doves because he was fond of birds. Do you agree?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Answer – <\/strong>No, the man insisted on buying the doves not because he was fond of birds. He just wanted birds in a cage.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

(ii) How had he earned the five dollars he had?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer – <\/strong><\/span>He had earned five dollars he had in a prison where he had to work very hard. He used to get only 50 cents per year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Was the customer interested in the care and feeding of the doves he had bought? If not, why not?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>No, the customer was not interested in the care and feeding of the doves he had bought. This was because he was going to set them free.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Why, in your opinion, did the man set the doves free?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The man set the doves free because being a prisoner earlier, he understood what it feels like to be caged. He knew the value of freedom. He spent all his 10 years\u2019 hard-earned money on buying two doves and then he set them free into the sky.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Why did it make Mr Purcell feel \u201cvaguely insulted\u201d?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>It made Mr Purcell feel \u201cvaguely insulted\u201d because he reduced the price of the doves only because he could still earn profit whereas the stranger, who only had that money, spent it all just to set the two birds free from the cage.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
