2. Write \u2018True\u2019 or \u2018False\u2019 against each of the following.
\n<\/span><\/strong>(i)<\/strong> Soapy did not want to go to prison. _____
\n<\/span>(ii)<\/strong> Soapy had been to prison several times. _____

3. What was Soapy\u2019s first plan? Why did it not work?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>He would go to eat at restaurant and would then tell them he had no money. They would immediately call a cop who would arrest him. But as soon as he put his foot inside the restaurant, the waiters blocked his entry. Thus his first plan did not work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u201cBut the cop\u2019s mind would not consider Soapy\u201d. What did the cop not consider, and why?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>Because the males who shatter windows do not stop to chat to cops, the cop’s thoughts did not contemplate Soapy. They flee as quickly as they can. The cops observed a man fleeing down the street and chased him down.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u201cWe have orders to let them shout\u201d. What is the policeman referring to?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The policeman was referring to the orders for not arresting the shouting college students.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Write \u2018True\u2019 or \u2018False\u2019 against each of the following.

\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The sight of the home where Soapy had spent his childhood suddenly changed his outlook. The old memories of his mother and the sweet music revived his love for a decent life. He decided to work and become somebody in life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Discuss the following topics in groups.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Suppose no cop came at the end. What would Soapy\u2019s life be like through the winter?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>In case Soapy was not arrested and sent to prison he would have started a new life. He might have taken up some job and lived like a normal gentleman. But through the winter he might have faced the icy winds.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Retell an episode in the story which is a good example of irony in a situation.
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>Soapy was keen to be sent to prison for the three cold months. He made several attempts to get arrested. But none of his plans worked. Finally, when he decided to live a decent life honestly, he was arrested. Such an episode is ironical.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
