I saw a snake and ran away…
\nSome snakes are dangerous, they say;
\nBut mother says that kind is good,
\nAnd eats up insects for his food.
\nSo when he wiggles in the grass
\nI\u2019ll stand aside and watch him pass,
\nAnd tell myself, \u201cThere\u2019s no mistake,
\nIt\u2019s just a harmless garden snake!\u201d

Working with the Poem<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Answer the following questions:
\n<\/span><\/strong>(i)<\/strong> Pick out the line that suggests that the child is afraid of snakes.
\n<\/span>(ii)<\/strong> Which line shows a complete change of the child\u2019s attitude towards snakes? Read it aloud.
\n<\/span>(iii)<\/strong> \u201cBut mother says that kind is good\u2026\u201d What is mother referring to?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Answer –<\/strong>
\n(i)<\/strong> The line that suggests that the child is afraid of snakes is: <\/span>\u201cI saw a snake and ran away\u2026\u201d
\n<\/span>(ii)<\/strong> The line that shows a complete change of child\u2019s attitude towards snakes is: <\/span>\u201cI\u2019ll stand aside and watch him pass,\u201d
\n<\/span>(iii)<\/strong> The mother is referring to the \u201cgarden snakes\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Find the word that refers to the snake\u2019s movements in the grass.
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWiggles\u201d is the word that refers to the snake\u2019s movements in the grass.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0There are four pairs of rhyming words in the poem. Say them aloud.

5.\u00a0Can you recall the word used for a cobra\u2019s long sharp teeth? Where did you come across this word first?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –<\/strong>\u00a0Cobra\u2019s long sharp teeth are called fangs. First of all I came across this word in the poem \u2018Snake\u2019.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
