Poem – 7 (Dad and the Cat and the Tree)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

This morning a cat got
\nStuck in our tree.
\nDad said, \u201cRight, just
\nLeave it to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The tree was wobbly,
\nThe tree was tall.
\nMum said, \u201cFor goodness\u2019
\nSake don\u2019t fall!\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFall?\u201d scoffed Dad,
\n\u201cA climber like me?
\nChild\u2019s play, this is!
\nYou wait and see.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

He got out the ladder
\nFrom the garden shed.
\nIt slipped. He landed
\nIn the flower<\/span> bed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNever mind,\u201d said Dad,<\/span>
\nBrushing the dirt
\nOff his hair and his face
\nAnd his trousers and his shirt,
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll try Plan B. Stand
\nOut of the way!\u201d
\nMum said, \u201cDon\u2019t fall
\nAgain, O.K.?\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFall again?\u201d said Dad.
\n\u201cFunny joke!\u201d
\nThen he swung himself up
\nOn a branch. It broke.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Dad landed wallop
\nBack on the deck.
\nMum said, \u201cStop it,
\nYou\u2019ll break your neck!\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRubbish!\u201d said Dad.
\n\u201cNow we\u2019ll try Plan C.
\nEasy as winking
\nTo a climber like me! <\/span><\/p>\n

Then he climbed up high
\nOn the garden wall.
\nGuess what?
\nHe didn\u2019t fall!<\/span><\/p>\n

He gave a great leap

Working with the Poem<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Why was Dad sure he wouldn\u2019t fall?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>Dad was sure that he wouldn\u2019t fall because he thought that he was a great climber.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Which phrase in the poem expresses Dad\u2019s self-confidence best?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The phrase \u201cA climber like me\u201d expresses his self-confidence best.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Describe Plan A and its consequences.
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –<\/strong>\u00a0Plan A was to climb the tree with the help of a ladder. Although the ladder slipped and Dad fell on the ground.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Plan C was a success. What went wrong then?
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –<\/strong> Dad got stuck in the crook of the tree trunk in the place of the cat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0The cat was very happy to be on the ground. Pick out the phrase used to express this idea.
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –<\/strong> The phrase that expresses the idea that \u2018the cat was very happy to be on the ground\u2019 is <\/span>\u201cSmiling and smirking\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Describe the Cat and Dad situation in the beginning and at the end of the poem.
\n<\/span><\/strong>Answer –<\/strong>\u00a0In the beginning, the cat was stuck on the tree and Dad was looking at it from the ground. At the end, Dad got stuck on the tree and the cat was free on the ground.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
