Exercises<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. What made Swapna sell the cotton to the trader instead of selling at the Kurnool cotton market?
\n<\/strong><\/span>Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>Swapna sold the cotton to the trader instead of selling it at the Kurnool market because she had borrowed Rs. 2,500 from him on the condition that she would sell her cotton to him.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Describe the conditions of employment as well as the wages of workers in the garment exporting factory. Do you think the workers get a fair deal?
\n<\/strong><\/span>Answer – <\/strong>The workers are made to work for long hours at the garment exporting company. They are kept at a temporary basis and can lose their job if the employer feels that they are not needed. The workers are paid low wages. They do not get a fair deal as they do not have job security and their wages are low.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Think of something common that we use. It could be sugar, tea, milk, pen, pencil, paper, etc. Discuss through what chain of markets this reaches you. Can you think of the people that help in the production or trade?
\n<\/strong><\/span>Answer – <\/strong>The chain of markets for milk production is as follows:
\n<\/span>(i) Dairy cooperatives purchase milk from dairy farmers at different locations
\n<\/span>(ii) The milk is then transported to the factories run by the dairy cooperatives
\n<\/span>(iii) The milk is then pasteurised and packed in containers
\n<\/span>(iv) The packed milk containers are then given to traders working with the cooperatives who transport them to locations where wholesale dealers will purchase them
\n<\/span>(v) Retailers then purchase the milk from the wholesalers who then sell the packed milk at booths spread across the city<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Arrange the statement given below int the correct order and then fill in the numbers in the cotton balls accordingly. The first two have been done for you.
\n1. <\/strong><\/span>Swapna sells the cotton to the trader
\n<\/strong><\/span>2. Customer buy these shirts in a supermarket
\n<\/strong><\/span>3. The trader sells cotton to the Ginning Mill
\n<\/strong><\/span>4. Garment exporters buy the cloth from merchants making the shirts
\n<\/strong><\/span>5. Yarn dealers or merchants give the yarn to the weavers
\n<\/strong><\/span>6. The exporter sells shirts to the businessperson from the USA
\n<\/strong><\/span>7. Spinning mill buys the cotton and sells yarn to the yarn dealer
