Never let a thought shrivel and die
\nFor want of a way to say it
\nFor English is a wonderful game
\nAnd all of you can play it.
\nAll that you do is match the words
\nTo the brightest thoughts in your head
\nSo that they come out clear and true
\nAnd handsomely groomed and fed\u2014
\nFor many of the loveliest things
\nHave never yet been said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Words are the food and dress of thought
\nThey give it its body and swing
\nAnd everyone\u2019s longing today to hear
\nSome fresh and beautiful thing;
\nBut only words can free a thought
\nFrom its prison behind your eyes
\nMay be your mind is holding now
\nA marvellous new surprise!

2. In groups of four discuss the following lines and their meanings.<\/strong>
\n(i)<\/strong> All that you do is match the words
\nTo the brightest thoughts in your head
\nAnswer –\u00a0<\/strong>According to the poet, English is a wonderful language.

(ii)<\/strong> For many of the loveliest things

\nAnswer –\u00a0<\/strong>The poet encourages readers to convert their thoughts into words and speak them as these are loveliest things that never yet been said.

\nAnswer –\u00a0<\/strong>All the people are listening to the same thoughts. Everyone is excited to hear some new thing so speak your thoughts brilliantly.
