2. How can the stereotype that girls are a burden on their parents affect the life of a daughter? Imagine this situation and list at least five different effects that this stereotype can have on the way daughters get treated in the house.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

3.What does the constitution say with regard to equality? Why do you think it is important for all people to be equal?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Answer –\u00a0<\/strong>The Constitution says that all citizens of India are equal irrespective of religion, caste, gender or economic status. This is very important for all people to be equal because all of us are born equal in the eyes of the god. Every person should get equal opportunities in terms of education and career options. Nobody should get preferential treatment at public facilities. Equal treatment helps develop a sense of confidence among the people.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Sometimes people make prejudiced comments in our presence. We are often not in a position to do anything about this because it is difficult to say something right then and there. Divide the class into groups and each group discuss what they could do in one of the following situations.
\n<\/strong>1. A friend teases classmate because he is poor.
\n2. You are watching tv with your family and one of them makes a prejudicial comment about a particular religious community.
\n3. Children in your class refuse to share their food with a particular person because they think she is dirty.
\n4. Someone tells you a joke that makes fun of a community because of their accent.
\n5. Some boys make remarks about girls not being able to play games as well as them.
\nDiscuss in class what the different groups have suggested for the above situations, and also talk about the problems that can come up when raising the issue.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Answer – <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

a. We should try to educate the tormentor against this practice. If one to one talk fail then we should take the help of teachers.
\nb. I will request the family member to develop respect for others’ religion. I will try to increase his awareness that all religions teach the path of love with fellow human beings.
\nc. I will lead by setting an example. I shall be the first person to share food with the child who is being seen as dirty. This will help in changing the mindset of others.
\nd. I will educate that person about harms of making jokes at someone’s place of origin. I will try to show him the futility of prejudices and stereotypes.
\ne. I will make a scrapbook which would be full of pictures of female sports stars. I will tell about the glories which Sania Mirza and P.V Sandhu have brought for the country.<\/span><\/p>\n
