This is due to the position of the earth when there is summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Winter Solstice:<\/strong>\u00a0Winter Solstice occurs on 22nd December, which is also known as the shortest day of the year. At this time, the earth\u2019s North Pole is tilted farthest from the sun. It is summer in the Southern Hemisphere and winter in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>(e) What is an equinox?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>Answer &#8211;<\/strong>Equinox is the position of the Earth when the rays of the Sun fall directly on the Equator. At this position, neither of the Poles is tilted towards the Sun.
